Music that inspired the novel

In addition to writing fiction, John Everson has been a songwriter and musician all his life, and served as a newspaper music critic for more than 20 years. During the writing sessions for Siren, he used a very specific soundtrack to help create the mood of the book, including a great deal of Cocteau Twins material and the ethereal voice of Elizabeth Fraser.

Another eerily evocative track that inspired some of the scenes of Siren came from Chicago hard rock band Trouble, who recorded this psychedelic song of following a woman "down below the ocean" back in 1992:
