About
[From the outset] I was hooked and under the spell of The Pumpkin Man. It's been a while since I have read a good creepy gory novel. The story is of the horror strain in its traditional sense -- one heavily laden with mysterious goings-on, occult family, deaths and demon worship. You won’t look at a pumpkin in the same way again!

The Pumpkin Man is one scary story but the main characters are so likeable and relate-able that I had to find out how they survived, or didn’t. If you’re into witchcraft, urban legends/myths, and/or scary stories with lots of twists and turns then this one is perfect for Halloween reading! Of course, you may never look at another jack o’lantern the same way again…

As with Everson’s other books, The Pumpkin Man doesn’t fail to send chills down the reader’s spine. It is full of everything a good horror book should contain: a spooky setting, mysterious deaths, a small down with dark secrets, as well as rich and detailed characters. Obviously not a book for someone with a weak stomach, but if you are looking for a terrifying book to read this Halloween, The Pumpkin Man is the book for you. Read it at night…alone…if you dare! Highly highly recommended!

The book has a good number of twists and turns as the legend is revealed and the cycle of killings begin anew. The setting is creepy and the descriptions of the murders will make your skin crawl. I vote this book the best use of Jack-O-Lanterns ever. The tale has a good number of horror staples for a good Halloween read, Ouija Boards, bad houses with secrets, and graves. Oh, and blood, lots and lots of blood. Overall, this one ranks near the top of my favorite John Everson books...It is a hell of a read and I highly recommend it.

The Crowgrrl highly recommends this book! And trust me – you’ll never look at the gourds the same way ever again. “Beware the Pumpkin Man”.

I must say it's refreshing to find a horror that isn't filled with vampires or werewolves these days. No vampires or werewolves here, just good old fashioned things that go bump in the night. We have murder, witchcraft and a sense of impending doom from the very first page... John Everson has written a terrifying tale that stays with you long after the last page is read.

…I think this book is perfect reading for a Halloween night. Just be careful to not play around with the Ouija board, or the Pumpkin Man may pay you a visit too.

…I can happily attest to the talent tucked away in the pitch black corridors of John Everson’s imagination. Everson is an excellent writer with an admirable depth of creativity who gives it to his readers straight. There’s a simple nature to Everson’s work that, though poetic in a strange sense, is certainly more Dean Koontz than Clive Barker. And regardless of how familiar you may or may not be with Mr. Everson’s work at this point, if you choose to read this novel you’ll soon find yourself seeking out the man’s past works, as he clearly proves his worth with, The Pumpkin Man: a boldly brutal, unforgiving story that will force you to view jack-o lanterns in a whole new light come Halloween Night.

The reason I enjoy reading Everson (Siren, Sacrifice) so much is because he can make a nightmare-inducing, bladder-loosening story palatable for mainstream readers…The Pumpkin Man is a perfect Halloween read if there ever was one. I loved how Everson tied both urban legend and arcane mythology into the gourd-powered storyline.

I don’t think I’ve been this hooked by a horror story . . . The further I got into it, the harder it was to put it down. This book is everything a horror story should be: original, suspenseful, and disturbing. This should be THE book to read for this Halloween season.
